This investigation provides more information on the Marxist understanding of the book Don Quixote. It is an expansion on the knowledge offered by the prior Marxist literature that for the most part renders the character Don Quixote as a solely good character who fights for the liberation of the working class. But if we examine further into Don Quixote’s interactions and actions with other characters in the book, we see that Don Quixote is not the absolute hero that we know him to be. With this paper I intervene and present the necessity of a more complex Marxist understanding of the character Don Quixote by offering another way of looking at him. With attributing concepts of cultural hegemony, the false consciousness, and savior complex to the principal character, and examining specific details in his relationships with characters from the working class, we are able to see him in a much different light.
