Abrasion in the Measurement of Water Motion with Clod-Card Technique
Water motion around aquatic organisms produces a significant enhancement of diffusion rates of materials into and out of the organisms. Relative diffusion rates can be determined by measuring the weight lost from immersed CaSO4 blocks. A comparison of weight lost from CaSO4 blocks and sediment load along a vertical transect indicated that abrasion was not a significant factor in the loss of weight from the CaSO4 blocks.
