Pollination Ecology of Chlorogalum pomeridianum (D.C.) Kunth. (Liliaceae)
The pollination ecology of Chlorogalum pomeridianum was studied. This lily is a member of the Southern California coastal scrub community. Flower opening occurs at dusk and happens in a few seconds. The flowers deliquesce later the same evening. Large native bees appear to be the only effective pollinators. Self compatibility and the ability to self pollinate were studied.
