Abstract

The Southern California Association of Non-Profit Housing (SCANPH) is a membership organization that serves as a cohesive voice for the affordable housing community, does policy work and educates the public on issues of affordable housing. During my summer internship there I worked on two main projects. The first was working to connect SCANPH members that provide classes on financial education (information on banking, credit cards, consumer awareness, investing, etc.) with organizations who wanted to provide the classes to their tenants. I compiled surveys and matched up providers with those who wanted the service. My second project was working to get endorsements for two bills that are currently working their way through the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives (S 1411 and HR 1101). Both bills would establish a National Housing Trust Fund that would provide funding to build, rehabilitate and renovate 1.5 million units nationwide over the next ten years.
