Abstract

Interning at ACCE this summer gave me the opportunity to get a unique view of the process, the struggles, and the rewards of community organizing. I have learned a lot about the hidden hierarchy in one of the most developed nations in the world. It appears the United States government no longer embodies the true meaning of Democracy. However, the personal fight and love individuals have for their community can restore power to the people, and weaken corporate businesses and banks. We still have a long way to go. It is important constituents remind elected officials their responsibility to those who voted for them. Politicians are expected to voiceconstituents? opinions and have their best interests when it is time to create and implement new policies. Los Angeles is in dire need for a solution to its housing issues. Now more than ever, voters need their elected officials to have their best interests in order to enact housing policies that can improve the struggles Los Angeles residents face everyday.
