Particle Simulation of Asymmetry-Induced Transport

The study of Asymmetry-Induced transport is an exciting new part of Plasma Physics. In order to gain insight as to what is missing from the current theory of this transport, the summer?s work was to program a particle simulation of our lab experiment. The simulation allows a different perspective on the problem and records data that is impossible to gather from the real experiment. Though still early in data collection, the simulation has shown to be an accurate model of the system, and thus far agrees with current theory from a qualitative standpoint. Future goals involve investigation of low frequency cases where transport is not clearly dominated by resonant particles, as predicted by the theory. Another goal, currently in progress, is making plots of change in the density profile of the plasma vs. radius, which can then be integrated to find the radial flux vs. radius, which is what the experiment measures. In this way, experiment and simulation can be compared directly, providing insight as to what may be missing from the theory.
