    Abstract
Available evidence indicates that Watersipora arciiata is not indigenous to southern California, and that it has been introduced, probably since 1963. Its distribution suggests it originated in western Mexico, spread to Australia and New Zealand, and was subsequently introduced into California. The species is an important fouling pest in Australia and New Zealand, and may cause similar problems here.
