Magnetostriction of the Heavy Fermion Compound YbNi2B2C
MetadataShow full item record
We studied the magnetostriction of YbNi2B2C, a heavy fermion compound, using data taken at Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2004 and Ames Laboratory in 2005. These measurements were made using a capacitive dilatometer, and the same sample was studied in each lab using dilatometers of the same design. Despite seeing good agreement in the thermal expansion data made at the same time, we found that the magnetostriction data differed significantly from each other. In this poster we focus on our two main hypotheses for the cause for this: One, that there is a problem with the dilatometer, and two, that the compound is exhibiting magnetic basal plane anisotropy.
