Abstract
I have been examining ways to create more livable communities in Southern California, by examining the Arroyo Seco region, and actively participating in the planning process to create an event that can strengthen connections between different communities. The research has included examining a number of variables that affect the quality of life for residents in communities ranging from Pasadena and La Canada Flintridge, to Highland Park and Eagle Rock. These variables include a diverse range of factors such as the natural environment, local history and culture, local arts, transportation issues, and the political workings of local neighborhood and community associations. The research has been conducted through actively engaging with these communities, and consequently being able to better understand the issues at hand.
