Kaiser Permanente Summer Research

Under the guidance of Dr. Michael Weinberger of Kaiser Permenente Sunset, I conducted a project to assess the efficacy of pessaries to treat pelvic prolapse. Pessaries are small devices inserted into the vagina to help support organs that are prolapsing, or 'falling out'. Weinberger believes this conservative treatment is a safe and effective alternative to surgery, especially for older patients. The study involved a large scale medical chart review as well as the distribution and interpretation of a patient questionnaire. Most of the data has been cataloged on Excel? spreadsheets and will be statistically analyzed at the final stages of the project. In addition to my research work, I was given the opportunity to shadow doctors in labor and delivery, surgery, and clinic.
