dc.description.abstractNeurokinin-B is part of the same tackykinin family as Substance P and Neuropeptide Y, molecules highly studied in epilepsy. Punctate staining is seen in the hilar region of the hippocampus in control rats. Hippocampal recircuitry occurs in chronic seizure rats resulting in ectopic expression of NKB in the dentate gyrus, as well as mossy fiber sprouting to the inner molecular layer. An epileptic circuit is formed caused by a positive feedback loop. Activation of NK3 receptor activity with senktide shows a trend of decreases seizure threshold, with no effect on seizure duration or frequency. Results show no robust proconvulsant activity from NK3 receptor activity.
