    Abstract
Thiol-terminated DNA duplexes have been shown to self-assemble onto gold surfaces. These DNA-modified surfaces provide a medium to investigate charge transport through the double helix. Our research focuses on developing a procedure to make the well-ordered DNA films that are needed to perform such investigations. Here we also report a method to characterize the DNA-modified surfaces using the redox active molecule Ru(NH3)6 3+ that binds to the DNA.
