    Abstract
Aluminum hydroxyquinoline complexes are used in creating high efficiency organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).Much study has gone into producing a flat screen display using OLEDs, but to manufacture a flat screen display it becomes crucial to produce red, green and blue OLEDs. Efficient red and green OLEDs are currently available but an efficient blue OLED has not been discovered. Many different hydroxyquinolines derivatives have been studied to create new complexes to tune the color of the OLEDs.We synthesized the hydroxyquinoline derivative 6-acetyl-5,8-dihydroxy-2-methylquinoline and subjected it to four different reactions known to create hydroxyquinoline complexes.Of the four reactions only one has yielded any product.Studies are underway to find the structure of this product, to determine its suitability for use in OLEDs and to create new complexes.
