dc.description.abstractTransference of language has been studied in the past and there have been observations specifically about syntax transference and interference in the acquisition of natural second languages. We wondered if learning a language with a different syntax order plays a role in how difficult or easy it would be to learn that language. Would going from a native language of SVO order to a language that is SOV order make it harder for the individual to learn the language? To gain insights on this topic, we decided to create an artificial language where this syntactical feature can be controlled and manipulated by us. To use this language, we are creating a computer-based mystery game where survival in the game depends on mastering the language. This summer, we have focused on aspects of the language design and of the computer game.
